Archive: sculptures by Herb Rosenberg
Clay.
1951-present.
Rosenberg's first art experience at age 9 was at the Brooklyn Museum, which at that time had an art school. He started in the ceramics studio where he studied under Hui Ka Kwa until he was 18. He wandered into the sculpture studio around age 11 and was hooked for a life time. Clay was Rosenberg's material of choice for many years and it has remained that which embodies his most visceral passion. In addition to its textural power, the aromatic nature of the material releases powerful responses within the artist. It was with clay that he learned anatomy at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in the 60s. His early work was destroyed in a fire in 1993 below are pieces created since then.
